Summary
"The Artist in Our Midst" features edited and rearranged excerpts from Katherine Anne Porter's talk in Marc Kever's English class at University of Maryland, University College, College Park, MD, on December 14, 1972. A male narrator introduces the two excerpts from Porter's talk and also makes a closing statement. The program was produced for broadcast for University College Journal. Porter talks about the composition of Ship of Fools and the three short novels in Pale Horse, Pale Rider as well as the incidents and individuals fictionalized in "Flowering Judas."  A portion of the "Flowering Judas" discussion also appears on 24944-0001. The remainder of the "Flowering Judas" discussion and that on Ship of Fools appears on 25101-0001. 24997-0002 contains an incomplete segment about cigarettes and animal testing that begins at 00:11:59. There is nothing on this portion of the recording between 11:28 and 11:59.
