Summary
Recording of Katherine Anne Porter in a Roundtable Discussion with the Centro Mexicano de Escritores on June 1, 1960. Porter reads her short story "The Fig Tree." The first of three tapes. Following an approximately three-minute introduction in Spanish, Porter briefly talks about giving readings in the U. S. and about recently finding "The Fig Tree" among her papers and its subsequent publication. Asserts that the story is based on her life in Texas in the San Antonio- Austin-San Marcos area. Mentions the two former slaves with whom she was brought up. Reads text published on pages 352-60 in Collected Stories.
