- Date
1968-01-23
- Summary
-
Republican congressional leaders – nine representatives and nine senators – appear on "State of the Union: A Republican View," a live, hour-long television program responding to President Johnson's State of the Union message. The hour was originally offered to follow the President's speech the previous week, but Republicans decided to take more time before giving opinions. Former President Dwight D. Eisenhower opens the presentation with a short, two-minute speech filmed in Palm Desert, CA. CBS carries the program on television and radio at 9 pm, Dan Rather anchors. Sen. George Murphy of California directs (1/23).
