Summary
Oral history interview with Marshall Green conducted by Marlene Mayo on April 6, 1979. Marshall Green (January 27, 1916 – June 6, 1998) was born in Holyoke, Massachusetts in 1916. He attended Yale University and upon graduation went on to be the secretary of the U.S. Ambassador to Japan, Joseph Grew. After Pearl Harbor, Green enlisted in the Navy where he was assigned to be a translator. After the war, Green went on to work at the United States Foreign Service and eventually became the head assistant to John Dulles, Secretary of State at the time. His career was largely based on relations with East Asia, including being the U.S. Ambassador to Indonesia and Australia.  He passed away in 1998.
