President Kennedy speaks after arriving at Maiquetia Airport, Caracas, Venezuela, part of a two-day trip that also included Bogotá, Columbia. He speaks about his hopes for the Alliance for Progress, establishing economic cooperation between the U.S. and Latin America. First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy speaks briefly to the crowd in Spanish. There is a one-minute Christmas message from Kennedy to the armed forces; followed by his remarks at the El Dorado Airport upon leaving Bogotá (December 17, 1961).
