Summary
Half-hour documentary series (1984-85). "New Kids on the Block" examines the impact of immigrants on local communities: Koreans in Baltimore; Indo-Chinese and Hispanics in Montgomery County. Reporter Birchard B. Allen III profiles several settled refugees and interviews Dr. Emmett Burns, regional director of the NAACP; Frank Bien, the Maryland coordinator for refugee affairs; and Alvaro De Moya, human relations counselor for Montgomery County. The episode won an Edward R. Murrow Award for public affairs programming in 1985. Video ends with commercials for upcoming MPT programs and the first few minutes of another documentary, "Maryland's Germans."
