Summary
In September 1968, in the mist of a long teachers srike, about250 high school students from the New York City area met to form a student union to insure themselves a collective voice in their affairs. The union did not survive, but the anger and urgency it expressed are still very much alive. One of their speakers was Paul Goodman, author of (among other books) "Growing Up Absurd" and "Compulsroy Miseducation". In his talk on this tape, Goodman argues that today's schools are not merely useless, but actually destructive of initiative and creativity.
