This is a recording of a broadcast of the events at "The President's Dinner" held in honor of the Apollo 11 flight crew Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Mike Collins. During the event commentators narrate the menu, and name some of the guests as music plays. The navy choir sings "One Small Step For Man. " Governor Ronald Reagan gives a speech welcoming guests to California and toasts President Richard Nixon. President Nixon then introduces diplomatic guests, and presents Distinguished Service Medals, with the help of NASA director Dr. Thomas Paine, to deceased astronauts Virgil Grissom, Ed White, and Roger Chaffee from Apollo 1. Vice President Spiro T. Agnew presents the crew of Apollo 11 with citations. Then Collins, Aldrin, and Armstrong give speeches in place of President Nixon.
