Life's a beach is a profile of "Dr. Beach", Dr. Leatherman, of the Laboratory for Coastal Research at the University of Maryland at College Park and his study of beaches rating quality of sand, surf, and atmosphere. Pests by design illustrates the University of Maryland Biotechnology Institute's involvement in genetic engineering of insects to deal with numerous agricultural issues. Ready, willing, and A.B.L.E. discusses Salisbury State University's internship program Applied Business Learning Experience (ABLE) which supplements classroom theory with field assignments and hands on consulting projects. We have liftoff! discusses Bowie State University's collaboration with NASA to establish a program dedicated to improvement in science and technology higher education. A twist of lime examines the revival of Western Maryland rivers through efforts of The Center for Environmental and Estuarine Studies which uses limestone to sweeten once dead, overly acidic waters which resulted from acid mine drainage.
