The life and music of composer George Gershwin are honored in this 90-minute program. Archival photos and clips alternate with interviews: his sister, Frances Gershwin Godowsky; songwriters Kay Swift and Burton Lane; Gershwin biographer Edward Jablonski; and Leonard Slatkin, musical director and conductor of the St. Louis Symphony. Gershwin's music is performed by singer Leslie Uggams, accompanied alternately by solo piano and jazz quartet, and also duo-pianists Frances Veri and Michael Jamanis. Host: actor William Hurt.
