Summary
Jeff Salkin and Sloane Brown host this weekly program on "people, places, and issues" from around Maryland. This episode begins with John Aubuchon covering the discord in the state legislature over spending issues, as well as Gov. Parris Glendening's plans for a tax cut and new programs. Interviews include: Sen. Mike Miller, Senate President; Del. Casper Taylor, House Speaker; Martin Wasserman, Secretary of Health; and Barbara Hoffman, Senate Budget and Tax Chair. Aubuchon then focuses on Gov. Glendening concern containing grown and limiting urban sprawl. Without management, Aubuchon reports, new developments in the Washington-Baltimore corridor over the next 25 years was expected to use up as much forest and farmland as were used in the entire history of the state. Annette Gibbs follows with a story about the unlikely friendship between Del. Sharon Grossfeld of Montgomery County, a liberal jewish feminist, and Del. Nancy Jacobs, a conservative born-again Christian. Jeff Salkin interviews Jake Oliver, publisher of the Baltimore Afro-American, about their successful web site which offers not only news but history drawn from the publication's archive dating back over 100 years. Sloane Brown interviews Don Miller who has plans for starting a national African-American newspaper, "Our World News." Miller hopes for  a circulation of 350,000 within five years. The program closes with a profile, by reporter Jessica Hall, of multimedia artist Gigi McKendrick. (Last show of the season.)
