Summary
Katherine Anne Porter talk and reading in the Katherine Anne Porter Room, McKeldin Library, University of Maryland, College Park, MD, probably after April 1970. After an introduction by a male speaker, Porter speaks briefly before reading poetry. Topics include childhood, her experiences demonstrating before the executions of Sacco and Vanzetti, and history. She reads the work of W. B. Yeats, W. H. Auden, Henry Reed, Robert Graves, John Streeter Manifold, John Crowe Ransom and concludes with the 17th century anonymous lyric, "In Praise of Life." At 14:48 on 024943-0002, the recording consists of crowd noise. Porter can occasionally be heard faintly in the background. [This is the only one of these recordings that I suggest as a candidate for professional restoration.]
