Summary
Defense Secretary Robert S. McNamara makes several announcements during a pentagon news conference, including: a nationwide campaign to end housing discrimination aimed at Negro servicemen and their families; the creation of a new Army division, the 6th Infantry; and plans for an “infiltration barrier” of barbed wire and electronic devices along the Demilitarized Zone in an effort to holt the flow of men and supplies from the North. In response to reporters' questions, he denies Gov. George Romney of Michigan's claim that he had been "brainwashed" on a visit to Vietnam with other governors. Romney, a potential candidate for the Republican nomination for president, had said in a recent television interview that he had been misled by the military and diplomatic corps during a visit to Vietnam in 1965.
