Kennedy, speaking from the White House, reports on the confrontation between the federal government and the state of Mississippi over the James Meredith integration case at the University of Mississippi. He appealed to the students and Mississippi to accept the situation and obey the law. Student riots broke out on campus shortly after the president went on the air at 10 pm. A 20-minute news report with Jim Snyder and Bob Nelson follows.
