(2) President Johnson remarks in a telephone call to the delegates at the ALF-CIO convention in San Francisco (12/9). (3) Senate Minority Leader Everett M. Dirksen (R-IL) commenting at a news conference on section 14(b) of the Taft-Hartley Act, the troop commitment in Vietnam, the cutback on military bases, draft card burning, and the interest hike (12/10). (4) Defense Secretary Robert S. McNamara, speaking from the LBJ ranch in Texas announces approval for development of the FB-111, a dual-purpose bomber (12/10). (5) LBJ speaks via telephone from LBJ ranch to a meeting of the business council, an unofficial government advisory group, in Washington, DC; predicts “another record year for the American economy” in 1966 (12/2).
