Project Reach Out was an annual telethon that promoted volunteering. Business, academic and government communities were asked to donate time (rather than money) to help public schools throughout Maryland. The 1989 telethon recruited more than 110,000 volunteer hours, according to the Baltimore Sun. Rhea Feikin hosts with actor Hal Linden ("Barney Miller"). Features local performers like the Peabody Ragtime Ensemble. First hour simulcast on WJZ-TV.
