Untitled Kennedy Center site-specific work

First of two works commissioned by the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in the form of site-specific tours of both backstage and public areas of the Center, offered as part of the Something New at the Kennedy Center series. Jon Spelman functions as tour guide. Performers include Dance Exchange core company, Dancers of the Third Age, assorted student dancers and community members. Video document consists of a series of excerpts rather than a complete tracking of the event. Jon Spelman's introduction in green room of Eisenhower Theater, (interrupted by an arguing couple who make multiple appearances throughout the event); Stairwell through Eisenhower lobby to Grand Foyer for dance with community members; Dance on Eisenhower Theater balustrades; Through Opera House first tier lobby to Dance in African Room; Dance in mirrored atrium on Opera House stair; Freight elevator and loading dock, including ballerina in tutu using railing as barre, and solo dancer in formal gown; Dances at Terrace level atrium, including student dancers, Boris Willis solo, Tom Truss and unidentified partner in a duet; Hall of Nations, Dancers of the Third Age and others in dance as tour guides signalling with umbrellas; Grand Foyer, viewed from steps of Eisenhower Theater, dance to Mozart keyboard variations performed by Dance Exchange core company; Into Eisenhower Theater lobby areas, including lavatory dance; Full company final dance at floor level of Grand Foyer viewed from Eisenhower Theater balustrades.
