(1) Mortimer M. Caplan, Commissioner of Internal Revenue, on the use of computers by the IRS, and on new tax law (4/7). (2) Dr. Milton S. Eisenhower, president of Johns Hopkins and chairman of the Critical Issues Council, on Panama and the need for a new canal, the purpose of the council to put forth “reasonable positions” (4/7). (3) President Johnson, after meeting with Labor Secretary Willard Wirtz and four other Federal mediators, makes a direct appeal to railroad labor mediators (4/10). (4) Sen. Margaret Chase Smith (R-ME) calls her strong showing in the Illinois primary, “a victory for every woman in the United States” (4/15). (5) Alabama Gov. George C. Wallace Jr. on Indiana primary, his support from rank and file, on his strong showing in Wisconsin primary (4/9). (6) President Johnson on his arrangement for a 15-day moratorium in the threatened nationwide railroad strike, ending strike of Illinois Central Railroad (4/9). Rep. Frank Becker (R-NY) speaks before the House Judiciary Committee on his proposed school prayer and bible reading constitutional amendment (4/21).
