The French government and the Louvre museum lent Leonardo da Vinci's "Mona Lisa" to the United States from December 1962 to March 1963. On January 8, 1963, the painting was unveiled at the National Gallery of Art with remarks by president John F. Kennedy and Andre Malraux, French Minister of Culture. Several minutes of crowd noises.
