Summary
Sen. Kennedy (D-MA) speaks to the American Society of Newspaper Editors on the subject of religion and politics, in particular, his own Catholic faith. “I do not speak for the Catholic Church on issues of public policy,” he says, “and no one in that Church speaks for me.” He offers a list of reasons why his Catholicism should not handicap his bid for the presidency. Kennedy is willing to answer questions from the editors, but there are none.
