Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev arrives in Washington, DC on 15 September 1959, landing at Andrews Air Force Base, to be greeted by President Eisenhower and Chief of Protocol Willy T. Buchanan. This is the first visit by a Soviet leader to this country. The president and premier each make short statements before proceeding to the motorcade that will take them to Washington.
