- Summary
-
Final cut of video documenting Moving Jewish Communities, a training initiative for Jewish Artists, November 2-7, 1998, which was hosted by Dance Exchange under Liz Lerman's direction and primarily funded by the Righteous Persons Foundation. With a through-line of interview material from Lerman, it also includes interviews with participants and associate faculty for the institute, among them Rabbi Elaine Zecher, Rabbi Daniel Zemel, and scholar Ori Z. Soltes, as well as workshop footage shot at Dance Exchange studios and at Washington, D.C.'s Adas Israel synagogue. Topics addressed include the principles, practicalities, and implications of artists working in Jewish settings and the concept of artistic tools as embodying both "tricks" and principles. Blind lead and sculpt tools are demonstrated and site-specific work is discussed. Video produced and edited by Linda Lewett.
