Summary
A cassette submitted by University of Maryland student Steve Kiviat to fulfill an assignment for an American Studies course taught by Dr. Hugo Keesing in November 1979. Kiviat went on to co-publish the notable punk fanzine, "Thrillseeker," from 1982-1984.

The cassette includes an interview with the Washington, D.C.-area new wave/surf rock group Insect Surfers from 1979. The interview was conducted by Jeff Krulik of the University of Maryland's campus radio station, WMUC. Krulik would later become known as a documentary filmmaker, most notably for the film "Heavy Metal Parking Lot."

The interview is followed with examples of songs from new wave and punk rock groups like the Ramones, Talking Heads, Elvis Costello & the Attractions, the Clash, and others. The end of the first side of the tape and the entirety of the second side include an aircheck tape of Steve Lorber's radio show "Mystic Eyes." Lorber's program had initially aired on Georgetown University's WGTB FM, but later moved to WFHS. This recording is likely from after the show moved to WHFS. The aircheck tape includes songs from punk bands like the Rousers, Slickee Boys, the Reactions, Back to Zero, and others.
